Connection Coaching

The most powerful way to change your life for the better is to improve your relationships and human connections, and all of us have room for improvement. Connection Coaching can help you do that. You can be a better friend, student, leader, teammate, or family member, and you can feel more satisfaction in all of those roles. Working with a pair of connection coaches, whose first responsibility is to connect with you, you will identify individualized strategies you can use to improve the relationships that are most important to you and/or form new relationships.

Our work with each participant begins by making a connection with them and getting to know them with unconditional positive regard. From there, our coaches tailor the program to the specific young person, incorporating relevant focus areas from the six domains of healthy connection, below. Focus areas are adjusted for ongoing development as the participant progresses towards personal (or sometimes parent/coach-inspired) goals.

The Five Main Components of Connection Coaching:

1. Connecting: The relationship between coach and participant is paramount. Coaches model connection through their connection with the participants and each other.

2. Coaching: The participant identifies their own goals, and coaches help them get there through skill development and practice.

3. Mentoring: Like a caring friend, coaches encourage participants to better see their role in the big picture, helping them progress toward more connected living.

4. Educating: Certain universal principles apply to connection, and we have evidence-based curricula to address those principles as the participant’s need for them arises.

5. Inspiring: Coaches encourage participants to develop a better sense of oneness with others and help them see more how they are a meaningful part of something greater.

Coaching Model and Design

Our Connection Coaching model uses an innovative approach with two engaging, skilled coaches in every session, typically with one coach closer to the participant’s age, to facilitate a fun, conversational experience. We also incorporate a collaborative team approach and personalize research-based curricula to the interests and needs of each participant. Participants generally meet with coaches once a week for 45-50 minutes, typically with the lead coach in-person and the assistant coach virtually. Most participants do anywhere from 6-10 sessions, although some may choose to do more. See our FAQ for more information.
